The Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) determines how quickly red blood cells (erythrocytes) sink at the bottom of a test tube over the period of one hour. Elevated ESR suggests inflammation, which can be caused by infections, autoimmune illnesses, or chronic ailments. It is frequently combined with other tests to provide a more complete diagnosis.
Many reasons might contribute to ESR high in women, ranging from hormonal fluctuations to chronic conditions.
The test usually measures:
Total Cholesterol
High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL)
Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL)
Triglycerides
Very Low-Density Lipoprotein (VLDL)
