Blocks in the arteries that feed blood to the heart can result from the accumulation of plaque, a sticky substance. Bacterial waste products, fat, cholesterol, calcium, and the clotting material fibrin are the constituents of plaque. Plaque buildup in the blood vessels causes the arteries to narrow, a condition known medically as atherosclerosis. Blood flow via your body’s arteries may become more problematic as a result. Heart attack is the medical term for atherosclerosis, which obstructs blood arteries that give oxygen to the heart. A complete blockage caused by a significant buildup of plaque in these arteries could result in a heart attack. An additional risk factor for a heart blockage is a piece of plaque that breaks off from the arterial wall.
