Shivaji University Distance Education was established in the year 1962. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj-the great Maratha Warrior and founder of the Maratha Empire. dr.Radhakrishnan, then President of India dedicated it on 18th November, 1962. The jurisdiction of the university consists of three regions namely Sangli, Kolhapur and Satara.It offers 36 programmes under undergraduate and postgraduate courses in different disciplines. The degree offered through distance education programmes is approved by the UGC.
