Rajasthan Royals Defeat Delhi Capitals: It was the Riyan Parag show in Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium when Rajasthan Royals took on Delhi Capitals in Match 9 of the 2024 Indian Premier League.
It was the visitors who won the toss and chose to bowl first, that decision looked like the right one when the Royals lost two wickets in the powerplay at the score of 30.
RR, whose batting order on occasion has been described as top-heavy, lost its big three batters Yashavi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, and Jos Buttler at the score of 36 in the 8th over. Khalil Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers at this point, giving only 9 runs in his first three overs and scalping Samson.

Riyan Parag was already at the pitch at this moment and looked to stabilize the innings. But it was Ravichandran Ashwin, promoted to no.5 who slogged 29-off-19 and brought the proceedings back on track.
At 90 RR lost their fourth wicket. From this point on, Parag lit the fireworks. First with Dhruv Jurel, then with Shimron Hetmayer, he built explosive partnerships, He first reached his 50, silencing the doubters from the seasons past. Then, in the 20th over, he knocked Anrich Nortje for 25 runs and looked stylish doing so.
Rajasthan Royals Defeat Delhi Capitals
With a score of 186 to chase, Delhi Capitals got off to a great start on the back of their Aussie opening duo David Warner and Mitchell Marsh. But in the fourth over, Nandre Burger first bowled Marsh, and then bullied Ricky Bhui with a vicious bouncer for a dismissal.
Warner kept on the attack from this point while Rishabh Pant settled in. But the rails came off the chase when Warner was dismissed a run before his 50.
Pant never looked too comfortable with the bat in hand and was sent back on 28 runs off 26 balls. Surprisingly. Abhishek Porel was sent to bat ahead of Axar Patel and the gamble did not pay off. When he got out, DC needed 64 runs in 27 balls.
The tides shifted when, in the 17th over, Trent Boult dropped a regulation catch of Tristan Stubbs off of Ravi Ashwin’s delivery. The South African paid it off with two sixes on the next two balls.
At the end of the 18th, DC needed 32 runs and Stubbs heaved Sandeep Sharma for 10 runs in the first two balls of the over. But then, RR’s death-over unit shut the match down.
In the next four balls, Sharma gave away only five runs. And in the last over with 17 runs required, Avesh Khan bowled a bevy of perfect yorkers and gave away just four runs as RR won the match by 12 runs.
For his excellent 84 off 45 balls, Riyan Parag was named Player of the Match.
With this win, the Royals are now on 4 points in 2 matches and are second on the table behind Chennai Super Kings. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals are on 0 points after 2 matches and eighth on the table.
Tonight, Royal Challengers Bengaluru will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium.
