Pratibha Ranta talks about her Diwali plans and recollections, how Laapataa Ladies and Heeramandi have made this year unique, and her Oscar aspirations for the former.
Oscar for Laapataa Ladies? Pratibha Ranta is ‘hoping for the same !
Pratibha Ranta is looking forward to the celebrations of Diwali, especially after the year she spent with Laapataa Ladies and Heeramandi: The Diamond Baazaar. “This year is really unique, yet I have missed the most festivals since I have been the busiest. I will thus do a little pooja at my house and celebrate Diwali in a big way. Because I’ve done that since I was a child, and it helps me stay grounded.

“Diwali has always been a very spiritual experience for me with my grandparents because they practice spirituality and they taught me the policy of no crackers when I was about four,” the 23-year-old says in reflection of the festival of lights. I made the decision that from that day on, my Diwali would consist of puja, gift-giving, dressing up, and possibly visiting a friend’s house.

For Pratibha, the most memorable part of Diwali is Puja and the little pleasures. For me, the most significant Diwali tradition has been the puja. I really enjoy decorating my home with lights and diyas. When she was younger, I used to construct lovely rangoli’s outside my door, and we had a lot of pups who would ruin them. She also says that now that she is a cat parent, she has plans for her pet: “I think I’m going to come and just cuddle with my cat and that’s how I’ll celebrate Diwali,” she notes. Since they are cats and are naturally fascinated about everything, I also keep them away from diyas.
