The rare disease known as monkeypox, or M pox, is caused by a virus. If someone is exposed to it, they develop rashes and flu-like symptoms. Like the more well-known smallpox virus, this one is a member of the Orthopoxvirus genus. The most common way that M pox spreads is through close contact with an infected person. Moreover, it can transfer from animal to human.
