The actor spoke about the career journey that started with Pyaar Ka Punchnama, in 2011. Kartik confesses, “I didn’t focus much on having fun, I was completely focused on getting my first film”. Reflecting on his career, he said, “I just went for it; the film released, then the second film didn’t work, and then Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety revived my career, almost like a re-launch.” This rollercoaster of successes and failures has kept him moving forward without a pause for introspection. “Even till today, I haven’t gotten the chance to relax and think.”. Kartik is very work-oriented, so it has been difficult for him to find time to sit back and reflect. He said, “I don’t think I am able to give myself that personal time, because I am always thinking about work—the way forward, what have I not done, what went wrong, what is right.” This relentless drive has been his norm for so long that he acknowledges the toll it has taken on him, admitting, “I am getting a bit burnt out with this—just constantly working.” Though he feels this way, he knows work is part of who he is. “I don’t know anything else but work. I’ve tried that, but it doesn’t work for me. I am a workaholic x 100,” he concluded.
For Kartik, the elation of being noticed also came with the first time that a fan asked him to take a selfie. For this, he recalled always going to malls so people would notice him, yet he was quick to qualify that for him, “this is also work; it is no vanity at all.”.
Fans look forward to Kartik’s next release, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which will be released on November 1. He will share screen space with Madhuri Dixit, Vidya Balan, and Triptii Dimri in this one, promising a mix of horror and comedy as his predecessors have done. His reflection on work-life balance becomes all the more poignant while reflecting on this demanding landscape he is trying to tread through.
