Jewish Synagogue: A Historic Landmark in Kochi’s Jew Town

The Jewish Synagogue, also known as the Paradesi Synagogue, is a treasured symbol of Kochi’s rich multicultural heritage. Built in 1568, it is the oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth and is located in the heart of Jew Town, Mattancherry. The synagogue is known for its stunning interiors, including exquisite hand-painted Chinese tiles, Belgian chandeliers, and a gold pulpit. This sacred site not only reflects the deep historical ties of the Jewish community in Kerala but also stands as a proof  to the region’s religious tolerance and cultural diversity.
