In general terms, ruby rings tend to be costly than sapphire rings. This is evident due to the fact that the best quality rubies are scarcer than even sapphires in occurrence in the earth’s crust. The finest rubies have a deep, rich red saturation sometimes described as ‘pigeon’s blood’ and can cost huge amounts of money. Again, sapphires do have some value and are available in this range of colors but not as rare as diamonds. That is why the price of both stones can fluctuate dramatically depending on the color, clarity, size, and origin of each specimen. However, a competitor ruby of the same quality irrespective of size, would be more expensive than the quality sapphire.
