Fatty Liver Disease: Grades, Causes, Types, Symptoms & Treatment

The largest organ in your body is the liver. It aids in food digestion, energy storage, and toxic elimination. A disorder known as fatty liver, or hepatic steatosis, is when your liver accumulates too much fat. Excess fat deposition is caused by metabolic diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and hyperlipidemia, which can occur with or without alcohol consumption. Non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases and alcoholic fatty liver diseases are the two forms of fatty liver that are most commonly seen. The fatty liver problem is categorized into three grades based on the amount of fat that has accumulated in the liver cells: grade 1 denotes a mild form, grade 2 a moderate form, and grade 3 a severe one.

A significant amount of the global burden of liver disease is attributed to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
