What is DTF Transfer?
DTF transfer is a printing process that allows you to print designs onto special films, which are then transferred onto fabric using a heat press. Unlike traditional printing methods like screen printing or direct-to-garment (DTG), DTF is capable of printing on a wide range of materials such as cotton, polyester, blends, and even darker fabrics without the need for pre-treatment.
How Does DTF Transfer Work?
- Design Creation: Start by creating your design using graphic software like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or CorelDRAW. Be sure the design is high-resolution (300 dpi or higher) to ensure quality printing.
- Printing: Using a DTF printer, print your design onto special DTF film. The ink is first applied to the film, then a layer of hot-melt adhesive powder is added. This adhesive ensures the design sticks to the fabric during transfer.
- Curing the Film: After printing, the film is briefly cured in an oven or under a heat press at a low temperature. This activates the adhesive powder, preparing the design for transfer.
- Heat Press Transfer: Position the printed film on your fabric and apply heat using a heat press. Press for around 10-15 seconds at 300°F (149°C), then peel off the film once it’s cool.
- Final Product: The result is a vibrant, durable design with a soft feel. The print will last through multiple washes without significant fading or peeling.
