Circumcision is the procedure used to remove the excess skin surrounding the pointed end of the penis. The foreskin of a newborn is completely bonded to the penis at birth. Eventually, the foreskin separates from the head of the penis, making it detachable. Today, circumcision is also done with modern techniques, even if it was traditionally practiced in the past. This procedure allows any male to have his foreskin removed for medical, familial, personal hygiene, or aesthetic reasons.
