Good Cholesterol and Bad Cholesterol
Good Cholesterol: HDL is commonly referred to as “good” cholesterol since it enters your system as a scavenger and removes excess cholesterol from your bloodstream. It transports the excess cholesterol back to your liver for processing before leaving the body. This prevents an excessive buildup of cholesterol in your arteries, saving you from heart disease and other cardiovascular illnesses.
Bad Cholesterol: This type of cholesterol is commonly referred to as “bad” cholesterol since it is transported into your arteries. LDL cholesterol accumulates in the arteries and forms plaque, narrowing them and reducing the flow of blood to vital organs such as the heart and brain. If the plaque tears, blood clots might form, resulting in significant problems such as heart attacks or stroke.
