Following the inaugural audit, organizations should continue to practice some key steps in order to keep their ISO 20121 certification.
1. Live Compliance: Complying with the standards established for sustainable event management by ISO 20121 framework, making sure that each and every procedure or practice holds itself to meet those requirements.
2. Review and Update: Conduct periodic reviews of the sustainability policies and practices to incorporate revisions due to new rules, changes in stakeholder expectations or organization goals.
3. Internal Audits – Periodic internal audits should be scheduled to check the compliance with ISO 20121 certification and find out if there are any more areas that require improvements. Those audits are necessary so that the company remains in accordance to the standard.
4. Conduct management reviews: These function will include assessing the functionality and effectiveness of your sustainability managemengt system, as well identifying performance concerns or potential for improvement.
5. Training & Awareness: Provide regular training, and make staff are aware of the need to adhere to sustainability standards set by your organization.
6. Continual Improvement: Develop and implement a continual improvement process based on audit results, customer feedbacks & performance indicators to improve sustainability PCM.
7. Regular Surveillance Audits: Recertification bodies will perform regular surveillance audits, usually annually, to ensure ongoing compliance with ISO 20121 and any non-conformities are taken care of.
With the maintenance of these practices, an organization keeps itself compliant with ISO certification and demonstrates that it is taking required steps towards sustainable event management!
